When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks, and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness…
The light flows from their branches.
And they call again, “It’s simple,”
they say, “and you, too, have come
into the world to do this, to go easy,
to be filled with light, and to shine.
I love Mary Oliver’s words so very much. I am entirely smitten with the languid and undulating shadows of that willow.
Yes, Nancy, me too.
Willows are gorgeous trees….Always thought they beautiful around water…..
Yes, Sarah, me too. They get a bad rap from some but not me…
I know, Jane. Courage to you all! Thanks for visiting.
Thank you, Mary. Mary Oliver rules!
Mary is a mutual passion Cheryl. She helps us go on and remember what’s important. I am very sad for our neighbours and friends in the United States — yes — but I also have great faith in the ones I know and love — together, you will not let the lights go out.
That’s a great story Rod! You’ve always been such a supporter of Mother Nature…I had a willow too that I used to climb and sit in for hours.
A beautiful photograph, Sherry, and the perfect words to go with it.
Happy Sunday to you!
Sherry: Your beautiful picture of a willow tree reminds me of the one I used to climb in my backyard as a boy. When it was suggested that we cut it down for a swimming pool, I chose the willow tree instead.

Oh how I love Mary Oliver…and look at you, perfect tree for that perfect poem…that is a poem and photo that should be looked at and read often…it’s true…Simple and if we could all shine our light, what a wonderful world it would be…
Thank you Sherry for this at the most sad time..in our Country.
People should be like trees..a wonderful Mary Oliver poem and the photo is perfect!
Beautiful post, Sherry. Go easy. Hard to do right now, but I’m trying.
Willows have always been a favorite of mine.
