Sharing with Sweet Shot Tuesdays.
This morning the light was bright and the leaves were glowing. I went outside with my camera and tried to capture the essence of fall as told to me by the maple trees in my backyard.
I thought of the wonderful Hesse quote I read this week in Brain Pickings. Here is an excerpt.
For me trees have always been the most penetrating teachers… Trees are sanctuaries, whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can know the truth… When we have learned how to listen to trees, then the brevity and the quickness and the childlike hastiness of our thoughts achieve an incomparable joy. Whoever has learned how to listen to trees no longer wants to be a tree. He wants to be nothing except what he is. That is home. That is happiness.
Hermann Hesse
There’s more of this beautiful quote — you can read it at Brain Pickings. This is just a stunning blog curated by Maria Popova. She spends 450 hours on it every month and it shows. It is chock full of original writing and art work by creators you know, and many you don’t, but will want to — work that enlightens and entertains at the same time. It never fails to make me laugh, make me ponder and make me want to go deeper…Go have a look for yourself!
Thanks so much.
You’ve captured all the magic of Autumn in that image, Sherry. I love the idea of listening to trees. Now I’m off to discover Brain Pickings… though not until I’ve admired your stunning waterfalls.
And what a gorgeous language they were speaking.
Perfect composition there, gorgeous autumn shot 🙂
Thanks so much for dropping by!
This is fantastic. Thank you for stopping by my blog…which lead me directly to yours :). Love the photo AND the quote.
Thanks, Denise! It’s fun to find out about new sites from others — I do all the time. So happy to share…
This is absolutly beautiful…the photograph (drool) and the quote and your interpretation. Thanks for sharing your site and this other blog…so much good stuff! You’re the best!
Denise
Thanks Jessica. You’re so right. They didn’t really need much texture, but I couldn’t resist. You know how it is…;-)
Thanks so much Laurie. I have just been looking at your most amazing post on the paintings. Wow! Will write more soon.
That is such a nice compliment, Helga. I do try to evoke a feeling with my photos, and when it comes through, that’s success to me!
what a beautiful capture! makes me feel soft and warm inside. thanks!
helga
Gorgeous, Sherry! Wow, you folks really know how to do “fall” back there – unlike here on the west coast, where our colours are very muted. Beautiful job on the image and I love that Hesse quote – it really sums up what it’s like to live among the trees and recognize what they can offer.
Beautifully done! The soft texture just adds that little extra something — but autumn leaves need so little embellishing. I just found that blog earlier in the summer — it’s amazing isn’t it? Thanks for sharing the Hesse quote. : )
So true…I think that’s why I had to capture it!
What a simply beautiful image…. it says autumn but not cloudy dull autumn days but ones filled with yellow light and crisp blue skies.
